Bordeaux 2016

A Spectacular Vintage - Bordeaux 2016 Primeur Report

I am delighted to report that the 2016 vintage in Bordeaux is a super one, and there are some utterly compelling wines.

After the elegant Cabernets but more mixed Merlots of 2014, and super-exuberant 2015, which is astonishingly good in parts, but occasionally over alcoholic and out of balance, 2016 provides a very welcome breath of classic perfection in many cases.

I spent a week tasting as many wines as I could - 215 reds, around 30 dry whites and a few key Sauternes. It was a beautiful warm and sunny week in Bordeaux at the beginning of April, another deviation from the recent norm!

You can download my full written and annotated report with photographs by clicking here. It is 2.9MB.

I have also presented the wines as an Excel file which shows them in order of score (as well as alphabetically on the second sheet), and can be sorted however you wish. This is available by clicking here.
